Product Development / 001
Every brand starts somewhere. For Yukon Lab, it starts with a windbreaker.
We wanted to begin with something versatile, a piece that feels at home outdoors but doesn't look out of place in the city. Something you can throw on for a walk through the woods, a weekend away, or an ordinary day when the weather has other plans.
That idea became the starting point for our first piece.
The Direction
Our approach to Yukon Lab is built around a simple idea: outdoor function and everyday style should work together.
We’re drawn to understated silhouettes, practical details, and colours inspired by the natural landscape. Rather than designing around a single activity, we want to create pieces that fit naturally into different parts of everyday life.
For our first windbreaker, that means a relaxed silhouette, a darker earth-toned palette, and functional details that feel intentional rather than excessive.
Working Through the Details
The small decisions are what make a product come together.
The shape of the hood. The placement of the pockets. The way the panels meet. The balance between utility and a clean overall look.
We’re exploring these details with the first sample, using it as an opportunity to assess the design more closely and identify what could be improved before moving forward.
The goal isn't to add more for the sake of it. It's to get the essentials right.

Colour and Material
The Canadian landscape continues to influence the direction of Yukon Lab.
Muted greens, deep browns, charcoal tones, and other understated neutrals form the foundation of our colour palette. They're versatile, easy to wear, and work across both outdoor and everyday settings.
For the windbreaker, we're exploring a darker two-tone direction that adds visual interest without overwhelming the silhouette.
Material selection is another important part of the process. The fabric needs to suit the intended use of the jacket, while its weight, feel, finish, and overall appearance all contribute to the final product. These are details we're continuing to evaluate as development progresses.
One Piece at a Time
Yukon Lab is being built gradually, with a focus on getting each piece right before moving on to the next.
That means working through samples, reviewing details, and making decisions before committing to production. Not every decision will be final on the first attempt, and that's part of the process.
We're starting small by design. The aim is to establish a clear direction for the brand and build from there.
This windbreaker is the first step.
More to come.
Yukon Lab. Built for the elements.
